Ken
Melber is an Englishman who made Sarasota
his new home in 2003. He was awarded
a degree in Fine Art and the History
of Art from the University of Kent UK
more years ago than he cares to remember.
While
his favorite subject matter creatively
has always been landscapes, he is proud
of the fact that he has never found
a style and stuck to it. Therefore through
the years his work has gone through
many stylistic changes. He has exhibited
all over the UK and in Africa where
he worked in education for the British
government for 11 years.
It
was Arica, that he first began painting
and producing illustrations of dilapidated
and asymmetrical African shops and bars.
On his return to UK he continued working
as a landscape artist whilst undertaking
commissions for the National Trust -
the premier building conservation organization
in the UK.
The
artist's most recent exhibition was
at the Brook street gallery in London’s
West End.
Before his arrival in Florida, he was
headmaster of a prestigious independent
school in England. He loves sport especially
soccer and the physically demanding
rugby.
Many
years ago when asked for a profound
artistic statement to go in a catalogue
to describe his work the response was”
His paintings are delicate, sensitive
and aesthetically stunning, he himself
is none of those things.”
Currently, Ken would describe his paintings
as an attempt to use the subject matter
-- no matter what it is -- as
the starting point to create an image
that has total aesthetic balance.
